Job Description

1. Determines eligibility as a student with a disability for accommodations, auxiliary aides and/or services by engaging in the interactive process with students, staff, and faculty, including reviewing and analyzing student's self-report and supporting documentation.  2. Determines reasonable and appropriate accommodations and/or services that maintain essential program requirements and are consistent with the program of study and school/college policies. 3. Collaborates with deans, staff, and faculty, as indicated, to develop plans for the delivery and coordination of individualized accommodations and services. 4. Maintains a case management system that supports accurate and confidential record keeping for each student.  5. Manages day to day services as indicated for students on caseload; determines priorities and maintains workflow. 6. Conducts trainings in collaboration with campus partners to provide on-going disability-related information to educate the Yale community on disability culture, accessibility, and inclusion.  7. Recommends and contributes to short- and long-term unit and divisional initiatives.   8. Provides guidance to university leadership on disability culture and issues when setting policy and making management decisions, especially as related to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. 9. Provides assistance with exam proctoring and proctor oversight as needed. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.



Required Skill/ability 1: Advanced knowledge of disability law and understanding of HIPAA and FERPA. Knowledge of physical, cognitive, and psychological disabilities, including demonstrated experience with reviewing evaluations and assessments.



Required Skill/ability 2: Advanced knowledge of the accommodations, auxiliary aides, and services needed and utilized by students with disabilities in the higher education environment that maintain essential program requirements.



Required Skill/ability 3: Excellent interpersonal skills in working with students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds and in occasionally emotionally charged situations. Ability to understand nuanced differences in procedures, policies, and cultures across areas and populations, and navigate these differences.



Required Skill/ability 4: Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills and analytical skills with careful attention to detail.



Required Skill/ability 5: Excellent planning, problem solving, and organizational skills with the ability to triage, establish priorities, and meet tight deadlines and conflicting demands. Ability to balance varying demands of office activities and handle pressure and conflicting demands professionally and confidentially.



Preferred Education: JD or Master's/PhD degree (in Disability Services, Educational Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or Special Education) preferred. Demonstrated experience with Symplicity's Accommodate and Microsoft Office 365 preferred.



Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)
