Full Job Description: Excavator/Heavy Equipment Operator – Santa Barbara, California
NOTE: Only applicants that are within driving distance from the job site will be considered, as there will be no lodging.
SUMMARY:
- Immediate need for skilled heavy equipment operators to operate: Large Excavator (8,000 ton), Loader, Dump- Truck, Skid- Steer, Heavy Lift Cranes.
COMPENSATION: $56.97 - $91.60
Aplicar en /Apply at ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive, operate and maneuver heavy equipment.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site markings, maps, blueprints, and or drawings to move soil according to defined specifications.
- Utilize the appropriate and/or assigned construction machinery to safely, efficiently, and productively excavate, move, and grade soils in accordance with the defined parameters.
- Properly set up and utilize grade control devices to assist in reaching the defined grade tolerances.
- Use and understand all safety requirements of excavations and trenches.
- Convey information to and receive information from supervisors and co-workers effectively.
- Remain actively aware of surroundings near the equipment to maintain safe operation and distance from potential hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
- Perform pre and post-equipment checks and reports equipment issues to supervisors.
- Perform basic repairs to equipment in the event field mechanics are not available on site.
- Coordinate machine functions with crew members in response to hand and audio signals.
- When required, drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive pass-over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain.
- Work with the foreman, superintendent, project manager, and team to ensure the job is done to specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Dependability and reliability with excellent attendance record and the ability to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to follow directions and work within parameters established by Management and Supervision.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment in the heavy commercial, industrial and civil construction market.
- Good safety history and a willingness to engage and contribute to ongoing safe work practices including strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, and shoring safety standards.
- Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, team members, and client representatives.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures, to ensure safety and conformance with state and local rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of arithmetic to perform simple calculations.
Preferred:
- Construction heavy equipment operating experience performing grading and earthwork activities or progressive field experience in the related construction industry.
- Advanced skill in operating at least one (1) or more pieces of equipment such as a Front-End Loader, Backhoe, Skid-steer, or Excavator and moderate skill in operating two (2) other pieces of equipment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred High School diploma or GED.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Operators are subject to continuous bouncing, shaking, and equipment vibration throughout the course of their shift.
- Work functions require the ability to sit, stand, and ride in vehicles for long periods of time, as well as the physical ability and mobility to repeatedly push, pull, and climb repeatedly, access equipment, modify attachments, and control the cabin.
- Work functions also require the ability to:
- Push/pull/manipulate hand tools up to 54 ft/lbs. (force)
- Lift/load 55 lbs. and carry 150 ft, including but not limited to fittings, generators, jumping jacks, water meters, equipment, and/or various other materials.
- Ability to squat and kneel
- Ability to climb in and out of equipment.
- Ability to reach above head and 6-inches with fine gross motor skills.
- Ability to operate various-sized fire extinguishers in training or emergency situations.
- Ability to dig/shovel various soils while performing daily duties.
