Job Description

  • Cut and lay brick, stone, tile, block and refractory materials in rows, in various designs and shapes, to build structures, including walls, floors, ladles, chimneys, flues and furnaces.
  • Spread mortar, position and align each unit of structural material.
  • Check alignment of installation or repair, using plumb bob, level, and laser level.
  • Check elevation of new and existing installations.
  • Set and grout wall or floor tile, finish cement, perform stonework and tuck-pointing.
  • Install and repair concrete light pole bases.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of construction laborers.
  • Participate in the mixing, pouring, troweling and curing of cement, mortar or plaster.
  • Work safely in underground excavations.
  • Apply cement plaster.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications, including elevation.
  • Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
  • Clean marble or stone surfaces using acids.
  • Cut holes into various types of masonry.
  • Cut openings into various types of masonry.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent. 
  • Five (5) years of commercial masonry experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials involved in mason work. Including horizontal and vertical surfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams, and interpret elevations. 
  • Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding and aerial lifts. 
  • Reasonable physical strength and dexterity.
  • Reasonable recent experience in the fabrication and repair of brick, tile and cement structures. 
  • Skill in the layout and placement of masonry.
  • Experience repairing and replacing storm drains, catch basins and manholes. 
  • Ability to perform finish cement and mortar work.
  • Experience replacing curb and gutter.
  • Experience installing and repairing concrete light pole foundations.
  • Experience in underground excavated work sites.
  • Experience in coring and cutting all types of masonry.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Experience operating skid ladders, forklifts and similar equipment.
  • Ability to wear a respirator or fresh air hood.
  • Act in accordance with the Facilities and Operations' guiding principles: collaboration, respect, proactive, solutions-based, and responsibility to the environment. 
  • Two (2) years of commercial masonry layout and installation experience.
  • Two (2) years of commercial flatwork experience.
  • Two (2) years of masonry and flatwork demolition experience.
  • Two (2) years of cutting, coring and boring experience.
  • Two (2) years of commercial estimating experience; time and materials for masonry projects.
  • Experience and certification in the operation of all aerial lifts (scissor life, JLG’s etc.)
  • Willingness to work overtime if required or be called back to work after hours for emergencies.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an automated work order system.
  • Experience working with GIS.

This position works a day shift from 6:00am-2:15pm, Monday through Friday.
