Position Summary



Center X is a large, complex educational research and professional development center for educators in the School of Education and Information Studies. Provide classroom support for teachers through coaching programs in alignment with the goals and vision of the California Matter Projects among K - university students, teachers, faculty, administrators, and staff. Major responsibilities include designing, planning, administering and coaching in programs (e.g., institutes, follow-up sessions, workshop series, conferences, district wide program.) Bilingual in Spanish and English, emphasizing linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and effective communication in diverse settings, to support specialized language supports especially in mathematics to promote language development in bilingual/dual language contexts required.

Qualifications



  • 3-5 years of teaching experience; out of classroom/coaching experience desirable (Preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups of people, from students to colleagues, teachers, parents, and administrators. (Required)
  • Ability to design, implement, evaluate, and revise professional development programs. (Required)
  • Ability to summarize current research and reform issues regarding specific Subject Matter, and related education issues AND to apply them to programs (Required)
  • Working knowledge of management and organizational structures that facilitate the operation of a complex network of administrators, parents, teachers, students, and staff. (Required)
  • Comfortable working in many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences, organizational skills and flexibility (Required)
  • Specialized training and/or experience in coaching, preferably having participated in institutes offered by California State Subject Matter Projects. (Required)
  • Prior experience as a teacher, academic/research project or applicable experience. (Required)
  • An understanding of the developmental stages of students and State Curriculum 4, standards in language arts or mathematics. (Required)
  • A minimum of five years of successful teaching, preferably in an urban context. (Required)
  • Skill in designing and writing of proposals, reports, and articles to secure funding. (Required)
  • Knowledge, preferably a major or minor, in the specified content subject. (Required)
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, emphasizing linguistic proficiency, cultural awareness, and effective communication in diverse settings, to support specialized language supports especially in mathematics to promote language development in bilingual/dual language contexts (Required)

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)
  • CA Clear Teaching Credential
