Summary:

Responsible for working directly with patients and their families to discuss any questions, complaints, comments, or suggestions regarding their bariatric surgery. Advocates for the patient in resolution of concerns pertaining to the bariatric surgery process.

The CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital, established in 1959, was the first children’s hospital in South-Central Texas. Located downtown, this 190-plus-bed hospital serves more than 70,000 children annually from San Antonio, South Texas and around the world. The hospital (in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine) is the only academic children’s hospital in San Antonio. Our highly specialized services meet the unique medical needs of children, from Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care to Children’s Emergency Services, the latest treatments for deformities of the spine including titanium rib implants and halo traction, a Heart Center, a specialized asthma program, a highly regarded Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, and growing maternal services to include consultation, delivery, and maternal fetal medicine.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, programs, and applications.
  • Knowledge of health care field; medical practice clinical and administrative systems, departments, and practices, including clinic financial policies and reimbursement payment requirements.
  • Knowledge of bariatric insurance criteria and process.
  • Knowledge and ability to counsel patients, conflict resolution, and customer service principles and applications.
  • Knowledge of research methods to identify issues and clarify policies. Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with community resources.
  • Ability to comprehend bariatric insurance criteria for surgery, revisions and pre-op process.
  • Knowledge of insurance deductibles, out of pocket max and co-insurance for general and specialized surgeries.
  • Skill in analyzing of data, policies, and requirements and in preparing objective, comprehensive reports using computers for both research and reporting.
  • Skill in defusing tense situations through diplomatic problem-solving.
  • Skill in effectively balancing needs of clinic with needs of patient with minimum of tension.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external contacts via phone, in person, and through well written reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership within medical practice to resolve immediate and long-term patient concerns.
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of people.
  • Minimum two years of experience in customer services, with at least six months of experience in health care setting. Patient representative experience preferred.
