Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.


The Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship at Colorado State University is interdisciplinary with programs of emphasis in forestry, fire science, fire management, natural resource policy/planning, rangeland ecology, and restoration ecology. The Department’s faculty and staff support the Warner College of Natural Resources (WCNR) and the University in fulfilling the Land Grant Mission in these programmatic areas. The Department offers undergraduate majors in Forestry, Rangeland Ecology, and Natural Resources Management in addition to Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, and a Master’s in Natural Resource Stewardship degree. The Warner College is home to five academic departments and several centers and institutes such as the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute, the WESTFIRE Research Center, the Colorado State Forest Service, Natural Resource Ecology Lab, the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands and the Colorado Natural Heritage Program. These programs, institutes and centers provide a foundation for research, education and outreach in this field. The Department is currently the administrative home for the Director of the CSU Climate Initiative.



Position Summary

The Administrative Professional position will serve as Program Manager and Research Associate for the CSU Climate Initiative (CCI) and the new CSU Spur Climate Hub, which reports to the CCI. This position will be responsible for providing administrative support, assisting with the strategic development, leading research projects related to the CCI, and helping to plan programmatic streams of work for each organizational program. The Program Manager will arrange meetings, take notes, plan events, monitor progress on the program of work, delegate tasks to team members, conduct research, and support communication and opportunities for feedback with external partners outside of CSU, such as the public, local government, think tanks, and the private sector, as well as internal groups at CSU. As this role continues to develop, there will be a focus on supporting educational programming, communication, and event planning. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in program management and technical support, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple tasks efficiently.



Required Job Qualifications

  • B.A./B.S. in environmental studies, sustainability, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of related professional experience, which must include
    • Experience in program coordination or project management and event planning.
    • Experience working with teams as an administrative professional in an academic or higher-education setting.
    • Experience conducting social science research.
    • Experience managing projects for high-level personnel.

  • Experience working within programs dedicated to advancing sustainability and climate resilience.
  • Experience working in a cross-college/departmental collaborative environment.
  • Experience utilizing program/project management tracking methods and tools.
  • Experience developing external communication materials and strategy.
