Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time/Full-Time Reports to: Parochial Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective: Collaborates with the Parochial Administrator and pastorate staff to provide quality and reverent liturgical celebrations, and facilitates a prayerful environment worthy of the dignity of the sacrifice of the Mass. Essential Job Duties:
  • Collaborates with the Parochial Administrator, Parochial Vicars, and consultative bodies in implementing the mission of the parish.
  • Primarily plays/accompanies cantors/choir at St. Olaf Church Weekend Masses.
  • Directs the parish worship programs. Develops and organizes plans which respond to the parish workshop and prayer needs and oversees the provision of quality sacramental and liturgical celebrations in collaboration with the presider.
  • Coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of both the Eucharist and sacramental celebrations of the parish.
  • Leads the scheduling and coordinating of liturgical celebrations and special liturgies scheduled throughout the year working closely with Parochial Administrator and Parochial Vicar(s) as well as the Communications Coordinator.
  • Maintain a list of accompanists at each location as well as fill-ins.
  • Assures that adequate materials for worship are available. Oversees the purchase and supply of sacred vessels, vestments, and other liturgical supplies.
  • Coordinates with the Communications Coordinator on Mass announcements for the Pastorate each weekend, and is responsible to ensure each location has the proper weekend Masses.
  • Coordinates with each location to ensure that prior to each liturgy the books are in place, Prayers of the Faithful (including Mass Intentions) are updated, sacristans, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers and greeters are scheduled to perform their respective roles.
  • Coordinates the work of pastorate liturgy teams and committees (Church Environment, Spiritual Life and Worship Commission), as well as the work of the various liturgical ministers, including presiders, lectors, Eucharist ministers, servers, musicians, sacristans, ushers, and others.
  • Oversees volunteer or directly consults with family on the liturgy for funeral Mass.
  • Recruits, screens, trains, and supports these ministers (listed in prior bullet), assuring the completion of background checks as appropriate.
  • Serves as a local parish resource to the Parochial Administrator and Parochial Vicars and other staff by providing assistance or consultation for their worship needs and responsibilities.
  • Prepares and administers an annual liturgy budget. Works closely with Business Manager on timing and budget for program.
  • Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for this ministry through reading appropriate materials, and attending workshops and conventions.
  • Recruit, rehearse, direct and develop the parish choirs.
  • Keep current on the directives from the Diocesan Director of Worship in the Madison Diocese. Participates in regional, diocesan and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
Required Education & Experience: Preferred Education & Experience: • Associate Degree or equivalent experience Required Competencies:

  • Musicians/Accompanists (non-employee)
  • Volunteers such as Church Environment personnel, Schedulers of liturgical roles, etc.
  • Coordinator for funeral liturgy preparation
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Office environment
  • Ability to attend outdoor services in all weather conditions.
Normal Work Days & Hours: • Part-Time, flexible hours during week. Requested office hours Tuesday and/or Thursday to allow for staff meetings and collaboration; Evening and Weekend hours required. Travel Requirements: • Yes, as needed to other locations within our Pastorate.
