WHAT CAN RELIAS OFFER YOU?
The Senior Cloud Engineer will be responsible for architecting, modernizing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role involves leading efforts to automate, optimize, and secure cloud environments while ensuring the highest levels of system and application uptime. The Senior Cloud Engineer will also serve as a mentor and technical leader for junior cloud engineers, providing guidance and hands-on support to enable the growth of a self-sufficient and skilled team. This individual works closely with the development and operations teams to ensure our cloud infrastructure meets the organization’s scalability, reliability, and performance requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Architecting and Modernizing Cloud Infrastructure: Designing, implementing and managing a scalable, resilient, and automated cloud infrastructure on GCP to support current and future business needs.
Automation and DevOps Leadership: Leading the integration of advanced DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, automated monitoring, and alerting systems to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual interventions.
System Reliability and Performance: Ensuring the availability and performance of all cloud systems by implementing proactive monitoring, automated failover, and robust disaster recovery strategies.
Incident Management Acting as a point of escalation for complex issues, troubleshooting incidents, identifying root causes, implementing fixes, and documenting problems and preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
Mentorship and Development: Mentoring junior cloud engineers, providing technical guidance, training, and support to enhance their capabilities and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
Collaboration with Development Teams: Working closely with software development teams to understand application requirements and optimize cloud infrastructure accordingly. Collaborate on software releases and infrastructure-related tasks.
Documentation and Standards: Developing and maintaining documentation for cloud architecture, standard operating procedures, and best practices. Ensure compliance with organizational, industry, and security standards.
Cost Optimization: Utilizing GCP tools and best practices to manage and reduce cloud costs while ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization.
Continuous Improvement: Researching and recommending innovative and automated approaches for system administration and cloud management. Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in cloud computing.
Cloud Identity and Access Management: Managing Cloud Identity Access Management (IAM) artifacts, including user accounts, service accounts, app registrations, and managed identities.
Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.
YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES IF YOU HAVE/ARE
5+ years of experience in cloud engineering with a focus on GCP
Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale cloud infrastructure
Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent work experience
Cloud Architecture Expertise: Proficiency in designing and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions on GCP.
Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Mastery: Extensive experience with IaC tools like Terraform and Ansible, enabling automated, repeatable, and reliable infrastructure deployments.
DevOps and CI/CD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, including tools like Bitbucket Pipelines and Azure DevOps, to streamline development and deployment processes.
Cloud Security and Compliance: In-depth knowledge of cloud security, monitoring, and compliance frameworks to ensure that cloud environments meet organizational and regulatory security requirements.
Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Strong leadership capabilities with a proven track record of mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment.
Containerization and Orchestration Expertise: Deep familiarity with containerization technologies like Kubernetes and Docker to manage cloud-native applications efficiently.
Scripting and Automation Skills: Advanced scripting abilities (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate routine tasks and optimize cloud operations.
Networking and Cloud Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, particularly in a cloud environment, including VPCs, firewalls, and load balancing.
Incident Management and Problem Solving: Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to complex incidents, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions.
IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAVE:
GCP certification (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Architect)
Additional certifications in Microsoft Azure
Experience in cost management and cloud optimization strategies

IN OFFICE REQUIREMENT:
Relias values collaboration and wants to ensure that our team members have opportunities to work with their teams regularly for professional development opportunities. Our flexible hybrid work environment requires that you live in the state of North Carolina, within a commutable distance to our office (~1-hour commute). You would be expected to work in our Morrisville, NC Headquarters approximately 30 days/quarter.
