Job Description and Duties

The Permanent/Full Time Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I will be directed by the Program Director, Social Work (Chief of Social Work) in Social Work Services at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Provides supervision and oversight of assigned Clinical Social Workers and interns.
• Collaborates with Program Management and Chief of Social Work to evaluate Social Work staff performance and takes or recommends appropriate action.
• Assists in the implementation of Performance Improvement.
• Administers audit tools including entering data into data bases.
• Interprets and analyzes findings for reports.
• Proposes improvements in service delivery as a result of findings.
• Plans and implements necessary changes in service delivery.
• Provide coverage during the absence of the Chief of Social Work.
• Provides in-services and training to social work staff
• Provide orientation regarding social work duties and responsibilities to new Social Work staff.
• Provide individual and group treatment for observation and training purposes.
• Completes Clinical Social Work assessments and documentation.

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at  , OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

*Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview.  Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your completed out of class paperwork and/or unofficial college transcripts. If you are a current DSH-A Clinical Social Worker, no transcripts are necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either I Two years of experience performing the duties of a Psychiatric Social Worker in the California state service.  Or II Experience: Four years of experience in Psychiatric Social Work, at least one year of which must have been as a social work supervisor and at least two years of which must have been in a child guidance or psychiatric clinic, in a psychiatric extramural program, in a psychiatric hospital, or in a psychiatric department of a hospital; or in a hospital for the physically disabled.  AND Education: Completion of a two-year graduate curriculum in social work in a recognized school of social work. (In appraising experience, more weight will be given to the breadth of pertinent experience and the evidence of the candidate's ability to accept and fulfill increasing responsibility than to the length of his experience.)

Working Conditions

This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).

INTERVIEW / RELOCATION INFORMATION

Reimbursement for interview and relocation expenses are available up to $10,000 pursuant to operational needs and fund availability. Reimbursement amounts and per diem rates will be based on the candidate’s prospective classification as outlined in the bargaining unit agreement of the CalHR rules.

• The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

If you are meeting the minimum qualifications by education and experience outside of California State Civil Service as a Psychiatric Social Worker you MUST include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts.  If you are a current DSH-A Clinical Social Worker, no transcripts are necessary.

You MUST include a copy of your valid license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
